If you’re like most of the people I know, you’re well aware of the law of attraction.
You know, the old what you focus on you get.
Or as Hill said in ‘Think And Grow Rich’, you need a definite purpose backed up with a burning desire to achieve.
Which is all good…
Up until a certain point.
Then the whole concept falls flat on its face.
Let me explain…
You see, I’ve got a different view on the law of attraction; a view all of those Online Abundance Gurus don’t tell you about.
In my humble (yet often correct) opinion, I don’t believe ‘attraction’ is a ‘law’ at all.
So what is a universal law?
Gravity is a law.
If an apple falls from tree it hits the ground every single time. If I jump off the roof of my house I hit the ground and break a leg. So gravity is a ‘law’ right?
Of course it is.
So here’s my take on this…
The concept of Attraction, that you get what you think about the most, is NOT a law but a “Process.”
And that’s GOOD NEWS for all of us!
Because it’s a process that leads to predictable results (although rarely in a straight line).
- Predictable YES.
- Inevitable NO!
And this is where the confusion lies.
When ‘The Process of Attraction’ misfires, and this happens more often than not, one of the reasons for failing is because the person shortcut the process… he or she left out the hard parts.
Let me explain.
You see ‘The Process of Attraction’ is made up of 5 main elements, each one important, and each one must be followed for the process to work.
Here are the 5 elements…
- Thoughts: Focus ONLY on what you want.
- Feelings: Visualise with emotion, feel it.
- Behaviours and habits: Must be congruent with your thoughts.
- Actions: Can’t just think and grow rich… you’ve got to DO something (money loves motion).
- The Attitude of Gratitude: Being grateful for what you’ve got allows more to arrive.
These elements do not work in isolation. It’s a team effort. It’s not like a buffet where you get to choose the chicken and the cheese but leave out the carrots and spinach.
No. These five elements are the meal… and they each must be consumed to get the required result.
In my experience, most folks concentrate on the first two elements; thoughts and feelings. They are the easy ones. The feel good ones. And not much effort is required. So if they want to be rich, they spend all their time thinking they’re rich and feeling rich.
- They think about being rich in the morning.
- Think about being rich in the evening.
- Think about being rich when they go to bed at the end of the day.
But that’s all they do!
So not much happens.
When this occurs, many people get disappointed and bitter.
You can see these tortured souls at seminars, muttering away in the corridor, telling anyone who’ll listen the law of attraction sucks big time. (You can see folks shying away from these poor souls, reluctant to get close to such negative vibes.)
Frankly, it’s sad to see all of their dreams turned to dust.
But it’s no surprise right?
- They didn’t change their behaviours and habits.
- Didn’t take action.
- Didn’t give gratitude each day for what they’ve got.
- Didn’t grow.
- And didn’t add value.
Of course nothing was going to change!
Years ago an old mentor of mine took me aside and gave me some great advice. I’ll never forget it. He simply said…
“You make yourself attractive to money
by making yourself more valuable.”
It’s that simple.
So what’s this got to do with you?
To get more in life, we have to grow more and make ourselves more valuable. We know this. And the best way I’ve found to get what I want is through the ‘process of attraction’.
My thoughts, feelings, behaviours and actions get aligned and congruent
with my goal and I give plenty of gratitude throughout the process.
It’s then only a matter of time until these thoughts become a reality.
And look, whether you believe it’s a ‘law’ or a ‘process’ really doesn’t matter. I just wanted to give you my take on all this ‘attraction’ stuff. The important thing is to do it and get started and then keep moving toward your end goal.
Gary Halbert was right when he said, “Money loves motion.”
That’s because money is attracted to speed. That’s why I believe meditation is great but motion is even better.
Anyway, I talk more about this subject in this month’s newsletter.
For now, if you’ve got a comment… I’d love to see it below.
P.S. I’ve been told by more enlightened friends, there is another reason why the process of attraction doesn’t always work. They say it’s because of Karma, and if you’re covered in bad Karma the process just won’t work. But that’s out of the scope of this post, and not my specialty. However, I tend to believe it is true. It does make sense right?
