Feedback on Sales Letter Writing Workshop

Although this post is all about feedback I’ve received about my Sales Letter Writing Workshops, it also contains many lessons on psychology and why people buy stuff.

So there are plenty of lessons for all of us. And if copywriting or marketing is your thing, you should read this post with the intensity of a teenager with his first copy of Playboy magazine (sorry ladies).

First, I received several emails, two faxes, and one express posted letter, complaining I made my Sales Letter Writing Workshop too cheap. They were all from experienced copywriters and those that had attended my Master Class. The main theme expressed was I would devalue the information.

On the other side of the coin, I had many emails saying it was too expensive. That they really wanted to go but at $997 a ticket, there was just no way they could attend.

And I got several emails saying they were going to come, but had other set-in-stone commitments.

So here’s my take on this.

Before I launched this series of Workshops, I made a post asking for feedback… if people wanted this. I received over 20 comments on this blog plus double that number via email… all absolutely thrilled I’m doing this, all eager to come.

Now, as I go through the names of those who emailed and posted, and those who have already grabbed their seats, I find only a few of them have registered for the events.

This tells me 4 things.

  • One, they think it’s too cheap.
  • Two, they think it’s too expensive.
  • Three they got other things on and I understand.
  • Or four, they just haven’t gotten round to it yet.

To answer number one, hey, I don’t wanna be blunt, but they’re my gigs and I can charge what I damn well like. Sure it’s great value for money, some would say a steal, but at the end of the day, it’s my call, my decisions.

To answer number two, I’m sorry if $997 is hard for you to get at the moment. I know what it feels like to be broke. I know what it feels like to desperately wanna go to a seminar but you know you just haven’t got the cash.

All I can say is I know it may seem a lot at the moment, but I guarantee to give you exceptional value. You won’t walk out of the workshop as the same person. Your whole way of thinking will be changed and you’ll view the world differently through eyes full of optimism.

As for the third answer, having other things on, I understand. (A couple of emails told me they had a wedding that day.)

The fourth answer, haven’t got round to it yet; you slacker you…

Look, you’re busy, I’m busy, but if you really want to do this, grab your seat now before they are all gone. Only 25 primary seats are up for grabs and it’s first in, best dressed okay?

Now, one lesson here is a simple one.

We all view the world through our own filters, our own lenses. It’s our perception of reality.

As marketers, as copywriters, we must NOT let our own view of the world hamper our ability to connect with our market. We’ve got to have true empathy for our market and understand them at a deep, emotional level.

Another lesson is clutter. Today, it’s getting harder and harder to get attention and keep attention. But you can do it…and I’ll cover this topic in detail in a future post.

Now, getting back to my Sales Letter Writing Workshops.

Whether you think it’s expensive to get a full day of hands-on training with me for just $997 or whether you think it’s too cheap, has no effect on what the price is and will continue to be; $997.

Just think for a minute if this is something you wanna do.

If yes, may I suggest grabbing your seat now while you still can.

I’m looking forward to these workshops like a kid waiting up for Santa on Xmas Eve. I’m gonna be on fire and I do get a little manic when I’m charged like this. Expect some surprises.

I’ve gotta say that knowing this type of copywriting (the emotional direct response skills Pete teaches) … whatever type of business you’re in, copywriter, business owner, consultant, coach, entrepreneur … even an employee … this is what you need to know to make bigger profits, and put more money in your pocket. Doesn’t matter if you use it online, offline, on your feet, over the airwaves or whereever … having copywriting nous is the fastest recipe to success there is.

Can’t wait to be at the Melbourne gig, bring it on!

I’ll second that Dean. Even if you’re blogging, the ability to write a blog post and then get the reader to take the ACTION you want them to take is a great copywriting skill… In fact, I sell more from well written blog posts than I do from sending them straight to a sales letter.

Taking what I learnt from Pete about sales letter writing, I typed an email on Friday which I sent to a list I’d not contacted ever before about asking them to part with their hard earned cash. Within 7 minutes of the email being sent over 50% of the cash I was needing for the project had come in. Within the next 23 minutes I had more than enough money to fund the project, and still the money kept rolling in.
Early the following morning I had people actually call me up, desperate to throw money at me to make sure the project went ahead, stating they’d give, “Whatever it takes”.

As strange as it may seem, I had to turn them down and walk away from the money they were offering.

I owe it all to Pete’s ability to impart upon me what he has learnt about Emotional Sales Letters that sell. I got a 37.5% cash-generating conversion from a one time email. Now that’s power!

Hey Pete,
I had other things on that I was flying from Perth to Melbourne for. When I received the opportunity to attend your workshop in Melbourne on the same date I cancelled the other arrangements in a flash! I love Christmas and I’m a kid who can’t wait….

Thanks Fay, we’re going to have a great day. Just finished my Sydney workshop yesterday and once again, I over delivered…so look out Melbourne, Santa is coming to town!
